Experimental evaluation of the asymmetry of cycles of transverse vibrations for specimens with edge notches

Description
Summary:We present the results of vibration testing of specimens in the presence of edge notches with sharp tips. It is shown that the cycles of flexural vibrations are asymmetric. This is caused first by the presence of concentrators and then by the propagation of edge cracks. The durations of positive and negative pulses are recorded. We present typical experimental data illustrating the simultaneous variation of the natural frequency of vibrations of the specimen and the load ratio (defined at the ratio of the durations of positive and negative pulses) as functions of time. It is shown that the behavior of the load ratio adequately reflects the character and degree of fracture of the specimen in the course of vibration testing. Material: 20 steel.
