Description
Summary:TIG and electron beam welding have so far been chiefly used for welding of Ni-base superalloys. To improve the accuracy, performance, reliability, and productivity of welding, however, recent years have seen increasing applications of laser welding, although a major problem facing laser welding is its ready susceptibility to weld cracking and porosity. To examine the applicability of laser welding to Inconel 718 cast alloy, this paper establishes the relationship between the welding process parameters, bead cross-sectional shapes, and appearance of welding defects during laser welding. Also discussed are the factors affecting the HAZ cracking susceptibility of laser welds as the most important problem facing application of laser welding to Inconel 718 cast alloy.
