Description
Summary:A net-section-based model has been used to predict the overall isothermal fatigue behavior of a unidirectionally-reinforced metal-matrix composite (MMC) subjected to transverse loading. The model accurately predicts the relatively flat transverse fatigue behavior of the MMC, including tension loading and the threshold stress; this flatness implies that a damage tolerance-based approach may be inapplicable under transverse loading for some MMCs.
