Summary: | The restitution of cultural goods by former colonial powers is discussed. Includes a focus on the peak of Kilimanjaro, which was removed and displaced to Germany by colonial geographer Hans Meyer in 1889. The PARA artist collective, in collaboration with Tanzanian artists Rehema Chachage and Valerie Asiimwe Amani, offers replicas of the peak made at the GRASSI Museum of Ethnography in Leipzig, Germany. The proceeds of the sale are used to return the original peak to its country of origin. |
