Summary:A highly reactive yttria powder was prepared by the combustion process. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and specific surface area and particle size measurements were performed on the synthesized powder. For purposes of comparison, a commercial yttria powder was processed and sintered by the same route to the combustion-synthesized powder. Microstructures were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The combustion-synthesized powder had a high purity and sinterability. The combustion process was proven to be a simple approach to prepare a high-quality yttria powder.
