Summary: | Bioactivity of 15 glasses in the system SiO sub 2 -CaO-Na sub 2 O was evaluated by examining the formation of apatite in vitro. SiO sub 2 content is varied between 42 mole% and 55 mole%. Surfaces of glasses soaked in SBF were studied by FTIR. An apatite layer is formed on surfaces in a wide compositional region within 4 days. Hench Bioglass 45S5 is also studied for comparison. |
