Summary: | According to the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, an estimated 15·7 million people require urgent humanitarian assistance and more than 7·1 million people had been displaced by June 24, 2022.2,3 There are approximately 5·2 million refugees from Ukraine across Europe, and the EU swiftly activated the temporary protection directive granting refugees access to essential services such as health and education.4 Attempts to address some of the barriers to accessing these services are being developed and shared across the region.5 More than 1 million refugees from Ukraine have crossed the border into neighbouring Romania. According to the United Nations Children's Fund over 138,454 Ukrainian citizens entered Romania and 87,193 left the country to move on to other destinations since Russia began a large-scale attack on Ukraine on February 24. [...]procurement and approval of long-acting reversible contraceptives for widespread use is needed, since they are more effective than some other measures and can be more convenient for many women.16 Third, training for primary care physicians in family planning and gender-based violence care should be offered, since they are the entry point to the health system and located in both urban and rural areas. |
