Summary: | In the period spanned by the Texas meetings (the term "classical relativity" was not yet coined 40 years ago) the notions of gravitational collapse, gravitational radiation, singularities and black holes were in the center of almost all investigations and developments. Forty years ago black holes were exotic theoretical concepts far from reality. Now they seem to exist all over the universe. In the last 40 years a scenario describing the collapse or collision of stellar objects or BHs has formed. In my talk I want to outline this picture, and tell you which parts are firmly established and where the big open questions are. (Author) |
