Summary: | The development of steel-casting slide gate systems with one-piece and sectional periclase refractory linings is reviewed. Cassette-type refractory replacement was adopted when fluid-metal teeming techniques were used. A statistical analysis of compound and one-piece gate plates strengthened by metallic rings was undertaken. Practice showed that one-piece periclase plates were preferred because of their dimensional stability. 7 refs. |
