Description
Summary:On the basis of experiments carried out under flow welding production conditions without intermediate correction of the given electrical parameters of the electron beam system, the authors develop a method to determine the optimum parameters of the electron source ensuring penetration of aluminium alloy specimens with strictly specified geometrical parameters. A computer statistical model was developed for determining the relationship of a potentially unlimited set of parameters of the electron source and their combinations with the dimensions and shape of the penetration zone. The operating principle of the electron source is based on emission of electrons from a reflecting low-voltage discharge of low pressure with the hollow cathode. This discharge is shaped in the electrodes system consisting of three insulated 'cold' electrodes: a hollow cathode, an anode and an additional electrode which, in the majority of cases, has the same potential as the hollow cathode.
