Summary: | A study was made on the technical and economic feasibility of CO(sub2) sequestration in deep coal layers, combined with enhanced coalbed methane (ECBM) production in the Netherlands. Annually, 3.4 megatonnes of CO(sub2) from chemical installations can be delivered to sequestration locations at 15 euro/tonne and another 55 megatonnes from power generating facilities at 40-80 euro/tonne. Four suitable ECBM areas have been identified; and between 54 megatonne and 9 gigatonne CO(sub2) can be sequestered in the four areas together. The price of coalbed methane may become competitive with natural gas when a bonus for CO(sub2) sequestration (about 25 euro/tonne) is applied. (Original abstract - amended) |
