Summary: | A new solid-state electrochemical cell for CO2 sensing was set up using a sintered (Li2CO3-MgO) solid electrolyte and a sintered LiMn2O4 body as reference electrode. The emf of the cell, the reproducibility and the long-term stability of the sensor signals were examined under both dry and humid conditions at temperatures between 300 and 400 C. The emf is dependent on the partial pressure of CO2 and can be expressed by the Nernst equation. The sensitivity to CO2 is affected by the presence of water vapour, but the emf response in humid gas is also Nernstian. The cell is long-term stable at temperatures as low as 350 C and the sensor signals are reproducible with high accuracy. 17 refs. |
