Oscillating magnetoresistance in ion beam sputtered Co/Ir multilayers

Description
Summary:We report on the magnetoresistance measurements of a series of ion beam sputtered Co/Ir multilayers. The magnetoresistance show an oscillating behaviour as a function of the Ir thickness with a period of about 1 nm. The first AFM peak has been observed at the 0.6 nm thick Ir spacer layer and its strength corresponds to J AF= −2 erg/cm 2 at 300 K. This interlayer coupling is large and presents a very strong temperature dependence to reach approximately −6 erg/cm 2 at 4.2 K. This variation is attributed to the strong intermixing at the Co/Ir interfaces.
