Summary:This paper describes the planning and realisation of the envelopes for the Lyric Theatre and Concert Hall of the Arts Centre in Singapore, which is called the 'Esplanade'. The computer aided design process and the realisation by means of a custom/zed building system is described, starting with the geometry of the free form surfaces. The great variety of structural elements (members and nodes, glass panes and shading panels) could be reduced by the application of complex geometric rules to make the logistic of planning, fabrication, transport and erection feasible.
