Description
Summary:The atomospheric corrosion of carbon steel under different Cuban atmospheric conditions was evaluated. Pollutants (mainly chloride ions and SO 2) and meterological parameters were also determined. A classification of the corrosivity of atmospheric test stations based on these data was made according to ISO 9223. The difference among the corrosion rate values obtained for each exposure condition, as well as for each type of atmosphere, was noticeable. A model that represents the relation between the corrosion of carbon steel and the environmental parameters is proposed. The proposed model fits very well with the experimental data. The corrosion products formed were analysed by infrared spectroscopy.
