Description
Summary:Joining of ceramics to metals is of great interest from both technical and economical points of view. Welding of SiC ceramic to Ni-based superalloy has been realized using Cu sheet as a soft intermediate layer. The obtained bending strength of the welded sample is 53% of SiC ceramic measured under the identical conditions. The effect of joining temperature and duration to keep the temperature as well as the effect of pressure for joining and thickness of intermediate layer were studied. The mechanism of bonding was investigated based on observation of microstructure and determination of distribution of alloy elements resulted from interdiffusion. The function of soft intermediate layer was discussed. The results show that a soft metal intermediate layer reduces the residual stress by plastic deformation.
