Indium Oxide Ceramics with Titania Additions

The sintering behaviour and electrical conductivity of In2O3 and SnO2-In2O3 (ITO) ceramics doped with MgO, Fe2O3, SiO2, ZrO2, and TiO2 (0, 1 to 2 wt% as oxide) were studied. Description
Summary:The sintering behaviour and electrical conductivity of In2O3 and SnO2-In2O3 (ITO) ceramics doped with MgO, Fe2O3, SiO2, ZrO2, and TiO2 (0, 1 to 2 wt% as oxide) were studied. For In2O3, TiO2 and Fe2O3 additions significantly enhance densification. It is shown that TiO2 improves the densification rate, decreases the normal grain growth and inhibits the abnormal grain growth during the final stage of sintering. All the additives degrade the electrical conductivity to some extent, except for TiO2. This is partly related to an increase in the free-carrier concentration due to the donor effect of soluble titanium in In2O3. 12 refs.
