Summary: | A Feinfocus x-ray and imaging processing system, FIP 400.01 was used to investigate the effect of laser parameters on the formation of internal defects of laser alloyed AA 6061 specimen with Ni and Cr elements. X-ray imaging is found to be an effective non-destructive method to analyse the defects, such as cracking, pores and bubbles and the homogeneity of microstructure in laser alloyed coatings. On the basis of these observations, a high laser power with optimum travel speed and overlapping ratio appears to be the most suitable laser treatment conditions for laser alloying of aluminum alloys with Cr, Ni. |
