Quantitative phase analysis in tetragonal-rich tetragonal/monoclinic two phase zirconia by Raman spectroscopy
The quantitative phase analysis of tetragonal/monoclinic two-phase ZrO sub(2) can be performed by Raman spectroscopy because the Raman spectrum of monoclinic ZrO sub(2) is easily distinguished from that of the tetragonal ZrO sub(2) by the strong doublet at approximately 185/cm super(-1). As monoclin...

Summary: | The quantitative phase analysis of tetragonal/monoclinic two-phase ZrO sub(2) can be performed by Raman spectroscopy because the Raman spectrum of monoclinic ZrO sub(2) is easily distinguished from that of the tetragonal ZrO sub(2) by the strong doublet at approximately 185/cm super(-1). As monoclinic ZrO sub(2) is a stronger Raman scatterer than tetragonal ZrO sub(2), Raman spectroscopy is superior in discerning the monoclinic phase, particularly when the monoclinic fraction is small. Therefore, Raman spectroscopy is a useful tool in determining the amount of the monoclinic phase in tetragonal-rich tetragonal/monoclinic two-phase ZrO sub(2), such as fractured tetragonal ZrO sub(2) polycrystals. |
