Description
Summary:We study the solar wind for the time period 1985/86 by a steady-state, three-dimensional global MHD model, which describes the whole region from the coronal base up to planetary distances. As boundary conditions at the coronal base we use photospheric magnetic field observations. The numerical model covers both regions of subsonic/sub-Alfvénic and supersonic/super-Alfvénic flows self-consistently and therefore can serve as a useful tool for space plasma data interpretation. Simulation results are contrasted with PVO, VEGA and IMP magnetometer data between 0.7 and 1.0 AU for the years 1985/86 and show fairly good agreement between computed and measured magnetic field polarity.
