Summary: | Copper powders have been densified by cold hydrostatic compaction and by cold closed-die compaction. The stress versus strain relations were measured and the subsequent yield surfaces were probed. The shape of the yield surface is found to be sensitive to the type of compaction employed. Hydrostatic compaction results in a yield surface of approximately elliptical shape, while closed-die compaction produces a yield surface which is elongated along the loading direction with a vertex at the loading point. Existing theories of cold compaction are compared against the observed responses. |
