Summary: | The models proposed account very correctly for the non-linear behaviour observed in composites with a ceramic matrix. They describe elastic behaviour coupled with the damage as well as the associated residual strains and the damage deactivation effects, unilateral effects, that are clearly observed. This formulation of damage mechanics offers a certain number of advantages. The foremost is the possibility of using scalar and tensor variables in combination, which is essential when modelling CMCs, as these often have several deterioration mechanisms. Moreover, by this feature, the model can be applied to various kinds of material (isotropic material like concrete, Metallic Matrix Composites, or Organic Resin Composites). Another essential feature of the model is its explicit character that reduces the numerical aspects and makes easier its implementation in finite element codes. 19 refs. |
