Description
Summary:The interaction between molten oxidised corium (UO2+x-ZrO2- Fe(Cr,Ni)Oy) and zirconia concrete was studied. Experiments were performed by induction melting of corium in a cold crucible. Experimental data on the ablation rate are presented. The data were used to develop a simplified model for evaluating the ablation rate under the assumption that is proportional to the degree of nonsaturation of the melt. An empirical dependence of the coefficient of proportionality on the corium temperature and the initial concentration of iron oxides in the melt was established. The findings show that ZrO2 concrete can be recommended as a protective material for melt traps in VVER reactors. 10 refs.
