Description
Summary:In recent years, the application of titanium materials to various structures has been expanded due to its high specific strength has been expanded due to its high specific strength and superior corrosion resistance, so the demand for the welding to H4600 titanium base alloys has increased. In general, the TIG welding process is employed for the welding of Ti materials but there are problems concerning efficiency. Some applications of the MIG welding process improve the efficiency but the arc cathode spot on the base metal is not stabilised under a pure argon shielding gas environment. In other words, the wander phenomenon occurs. This unstable arc phenomenon becomes a problem, so the TIG welding process is solely employed, particularly for welding sheet material. In this study, methods of inhibiting the unstable arc phenomenon were investigated and the feasibility of the application of the MIG welding process to Ti sheet material by the employment of such methods was studied.
