Summary:The application of the essential work of fracture (EWF) method to characterize the crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) in amorphous polyester films is addressed. The determination of the EWF parameters is discussed. It is concluded that the interrelation between CTOD and EWF terms provides useful information on the material behavior during fracture and validates the EWF fracture mechanical method. (CSA)
