Summary:The goal of the present work is to study the influence of spark hard facing conditions of tool steels, in particular, the pulse energy, on the distribution of residual stresses and to investigate the stability of these stresses at elevated temperatures under static loads. We performed spark hard facing on cylindrical and prismatic specimens made of R6M5 and U8 tool steels.
