Summary: | Corrosion and coatings are not the only source of time constants. Other examples of phenomena which produce these characteristics include: induction (e.g. hydrogen ions adsorbing on a metal surface): diffusion (e.g. electron exchange between a metal and an electrochemically active species is so rapid that the corrosion rate is controlled by the species diffusion to the metal surface); and parasitic pathways (the solution resistance is so large that the applied ac voltage finds a less resistive pathway through the electronic instrumentation). |
