Summary: | The synthesis of SrB6 powder by the reaction of SrCO3 with B4C and carbon is a solid phase process that passes through the transition phases Sr3B2O6 and SrB4O7. A study of the influence of holding time and heating temperature on the synthesis has indicated that the optimal conditions for SrB6 synthesis are a holding time of 2.5 h at 1673 K at 0.01 Pa pressures. The morphology of SrB6 is the same as that of B4C; thus, choosing high-quality B4C is one of the most important ways to improve the properties of SrB6 powder. 6 refs |
