Description
Summary:A numerical method is presented which allows the three dimensional simulation of fluid-structure coupled, flow-induced vibrations in apparatus with pipe bundles. The major critical points of semi-empirical design criteria and two-dimensional simulations are thereby principally alleviated. The advantages in regard to the quality of the results stand in contrast to the disadvantage of the very large computational effort. However, there is no longer any question that only numerical simulations have the potential to optimize the pipe bundle structure in such a manner that the thermal degree of efficiency is improved at higher profitability and safety.
