Summary:Results of fatigue life calculations are presented based on various approaches and variants for a welded elbow connection. In a previous investigation performed at the Universities in Karlsruhe and Aachen fatigue life of these joints had been determined experimentally. Results calculated with the hot spot approach and with a approach based on elastic notch stress show a quite good agreement. However, there is still a large difference between calculated and experimentally determined lives.
