Summary: | The main uses of gamma-Al2O3 of high surface and thermal stability, as catalyst support, has originated several production methods such as the selective dissolution of siliceous components of kaolinite thermally amorphised. A high degree of crystallinity of the raw kaolinite thermally treated between 750 and 1100 C allows gamma-Al2O3 to be obtained with the desired characteristics whatever the alkali concentration used. The specific surface area of gamma-Al2O3 obtained seems to be related to the alkali concentration utilised. A further calcination at 1250 C generates alpha-Al2O3 of high surface area and crystallinity. 9 refs. |
