Summary: | A combined nondestructive way for identification of minerals which constitute the rocks and for the estimation of their strength and brittleness has been proposed. The method includes the microstructure examination permitting to characterize the separate phases, grains, various impurities, and the microhardness testing in combination with the control of brittleness using the registration of acoustic emission signals. Along with the possibility of mineral and rock diagnostics this method can be suitable for the characterization of structural parts of various composite materials: alloys, plastics, ceramics, glasses, etc. |
