Summary: | In high pressure direct injection diesel engines a fundamental parameter to improve the characteristics of diesel sprays is the internal geometry of the nozzle. Depending on the type of nozzle the power, break specific fuel consumption and pollutants formation will be different. Most authors agree that the characteristics of the spray depend mainly on internal nozzle flow. Problems arise because of the small amount of knowledge engine designers have about real nozzle internal geometry. The main reason for not knowing the exact dimensions of the orifice is mainly due to the small dimensions of the orifice and the ratio of length to diameter which makes the orifice too long to determine the internal characteristics. |
