Description
Summary:The crystal morphology, phase relation and dielectric properties of K5Nb9O25, a new phase in binary system K2O-Nb2O5, have been investigated to determine the possibility of application to various fields. This phase is compared with other phases: K6Nb10.8O30 and K5.75Nb10.85O30 to determine accurate chemical composition. This phase melts congruently and this crystal with acicular shape is grown from the melt by slow cooling. From the measurement of dielectric and pyroelectric properties of this crystal, authors found that a dielectric anomaly occurs at about 100 K and a low frequency dielectric dispersion also appears above 500 K. It is clarified that this is a ferroelectric material under 100 K. 9 refs.
