Description
Summary:The microstructures and properties of Ti-Si alloys prepared by are-melting with non-consumable tungsten electrode in a water-cooled copper hearth under a purified argon atmosphere were studied in this paper. The results of XRD indicate that the Ti-Si as cast alloys are composed of α-Ti matrix and Ti5Si3intermetallics. The enthalpy of formation of the Ti5Si3 is more negative than that of β-Ti phase, thus Ti5Si3 precipitates firstly. The compressive strength and ductility of eutectic Ti-Si alloy were examined. The fracture surfaces indicated that the fracture of Ti-Si alloy is cleavage brittle fracture. But the fracture mechanism is different from that of the type of the alloy.
