Description
Summary:The main technological parameters of the process of diffusion bonding of metals are temperature t, pressure p, welding time tau, the parameter of the surface roughness of contact surfaces Ra, and the shielding medium. The quality of a diffusion bonded joint may be characterised by the mechanical strength of the joint and the cumulated (residual) strain of welded components. Investigations were carried out on specimens with a diameter of 60 mm, 30 mm long, made of VT20 alloy with the initial globular microstructure. The contact surfaces were prepared by finish turning (Ra = 6.8oe7 mum) and polishing (Ra = 0.01oe0.002 mum). The specimens for welding were assembled in such a manner that the contact surface of one of the specimens was always polished and the surface of the other specimen was turned, ground or polished. This combination of the machine contact surfaces increased the accuracy of evaluation of the effect of preparation of the surfaces on the development of physical contact and the quality of the joint.
