Summary: | The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) offers unprecedented opportunities for joint arthroplasty surgery. Notably, on 14th March, 2023, the OpenAI company officially launched its latest version GPT-4, which once again become the focus of discussion on social media. Although more than 200 articles have reported the potential role of ChatGPT/GPT-4 in various areas, there are no studies that discussed the potential of GPT-4 as an AI-powered virtual assistant for surgeons specialized in joint arthroplasty. In this study, we summarized the five major roles of GPT-4 including scientific research, disease diagnosis, treatment options, preoperative planning, intraoperative support, and postoperative rehabilitation for arthroplasty doctors. Of note, in parallel to enjoy AI dividend, it is also necessary to pay attention to protect the data from misuse with ethical considerations in place. |
