Summary: | With the market introduction of the Touran, Volkswagen has taken a new route in vehicle development. Besides the quad-guide rod rear axle and other new features, it is the first European vehicle in the compact van segment equipped with electromechanical steering. The design and construction of the steering system for the Touran provides an assist function, active return, and straight-line correction. Performance data on straight line stability and lane change characteristics at 60 km/h of the Touran electromechanical steering system are presented. |
