Evaluation of the reaction kinetics of CORTOSS\+sp\TM\-sp\, a thermoset corticol bone void filler
The reaction kinetics of CORTOSS, a thermoset, 2,2-bis-[4-(hydroxymethacryloxypropyl)phenyl]propane composite system were studied as a function of time, material storage temperature and site temperature. Probability theory was used to predict the percentage of bifunctional monomers with 0, 1 and 2 f...

description | The reaction kinetics of CORTOSS, a thermoset, 2,2-bis-[4-(hydroxymethacryloxypropyl)phenyl]propane composite system were studied as a function of time, material storage temperature and site temperature. Probability theory was used to predict the percentage of bifunctional monomers with 0, 1 and 2 functional groups that had reacted. This indicated the potential for leaching unreacted components. The degree of conversion for this bifunctional system was 76-86% and it was determined that up to 5% of monomers remained unreacted. This is consistent with theoretical values postulated for various diffusion-controlled thermoset systems. Overall, curing under physiological conditions yielded a faster reaction rate and a significantly higher degree of conversion, compared with lower site temperature conditions. |
