Summary:The prognostic importance of lymphoid cells in the tumor microenvironment and their effect on treatment response have been demonstrated in many cancer types. However, there are limited studies on non-lymphoid immune cells. Conflicting results have been obtained regarding the effects of these cells on prognosis. A total of 331 patients who underwent surgery for breast cancer were included. Patients that received neoadjuvant chemotherapy and those with distant metastasis were excluded. CD 15 immunohistochemistry was performed to detect tumor-infiltrating neutrophils (TINs) and eosinophils (TIEs), while Toluidine Blue histochemistry was performed to detect tumor-infiltrating mast cells (TIMs).
