Summary:Co-rich Pc-Pt magnetic alloys with high perpendicular anisotropy are materials suitable for a variety of applications, including magnetic patterned media for advanced recording devices and magnetic actuators for MEMS. Co80Pt20 thin films (0.125-1.0 mum) were galvanostatically (10-50 mA /cm') electrodeposited onto Cu(1 1 1) oriented seed layers. Coercivity (3-6.1 kOe), saturation magnetization (778-832 emu/cm3) and uniaxial magnetic anisotropy (0.82 x 107-1.02 x 107 erg/cm3) in the perpendicular direction increase both with current density and film thickness due to a combined effect of decrease in the porosity and increase in the crystallinity of the films.
