Description
Summary:In this work, printed circuit board (PCB)-integrated inductors have been adapted for operation as fluxgate sensors. The ring core is made from electrodeposited permalloy sandwiched between the layers of the PCB. The sensor excitation winding is also integrated into the PCB design. The pick-up coil is wound around the frame with the PCB core. The sensor characteristics as a function of the excitation frequency are described. The sensitivity achieved was 1800 and 13100 V/T at 150 kHz for 60 turns of untuned and tuned pick-up coil, respectively. We observed that tuning causes degradation of the open-loop linearity from 0.3 to 3%. The noise power density was 200 pT/Hz 0.5@1 Hz and the noise rms level was 0.3 nT in the frequency range of 10 mHz–10 Hz.
