Summary: | A real time error compensation system, which are compact, low cost, reliable, and user-friendly, is developed to enhance the machining accuracy of a batch of CNC machine tools by correcting the existing machine thermal errors. Four thermal sensors are used to characterize the temperate field of a machine. Two robust modeling approaches are proposed, which can minimize the errors coming from temperature measuring noise and adverse effect due to environmental temperature changes. This scheme has been implemented on more than 100 turning centers which are of the same type and size, and it has been shown that the machine accuracy is improved by an order of magnitude and it can keep year round accuracy in the real production of the plant. |
