Known in the west for starring in Oshima Nagisas last film Gohatto (1999) and for the retrospective of his work in Rotterdam (2010), Sai Yoichi (or, in Korean, Choi Yangil) was a popular figure in Japan as a film director and as a commentator on national affairs for TV.
