Description
Summary:Location and time are interconnected and play an important role in various database applications. This paper explores how these two types of information are integrated in XML. In addition to spatial literal types (e.g. Point, LineString and Polygon) and temporal literal types (TimeInterval and Instant), a parameterized type called TimeSeries has been defined using XML schema to represent the histories of both spatial and non-spatial properties of an object. An associated query language, XML-STQ, based upon XQuery is also provided in support of spatio-temporal queries on object histories. This query language is illustrated with some typical query examples.
