Description
Summary:When the Er(3+) ions are in a matrix, the crystalline interaction splits the 4S3/2 multiplet in to two Stark components. Absorption results obtained at high temperatures were published but no results obtained at very low temperature. In this work, we present for the first time an absorption spectrum obtained at 2 K. From this spectrum we are able to determined the positions 18,438 and 18,531/cm, for the two components of the 4S3/2 multiplet. The same results show that the splitting of this multiplet is 93/cm. The result allowed us to conclude that the Er(3+) ions occupy only one environment in the glass matrix.
