Description
Summary:•Globally, there were 314,974 communications about menopause on the social media platform Twitter between 2014 and 2022, with an annual average of approximately 35,000.•The US and UK were frequent users of Twitter to message about menopause.•Increased messaging about menopause on Twitter in the UK and US was apparent in 2018 and 2019, which may reflect social trends to increase awareness of menopause in these countries. This study explored the use of Twitter to communicate about menopause. Tweets in English posted between January 2014 and December 2022 with the hashtag “menopause” were extracted. Total global tweets and those from the UK, USA, Australia and Canada were examined. Globally, there were 314,974 tweets about menopause over this period, with an annual average of 34,997. There were notable differences between countries, with a large increase in use in the UK in 2018 and 2019, a reducing trend in use in the USA with a smaller increase in 2018 and 2019, and low stable usage in Australia and Canada.
