Description
Summary:Sintering additives, carbon black nano- and graphite micrograms have been added to silicon nitride starting powder. These mixtures were mechanochemically activated several hours in a planetary type alumina ball-mill in order to achieve a homogenous mass. Mixtures with oxidized alpha silicon nitride also were prepared to examine the role of excess oxygen. Sinter-HIP has been applied to rectangular bars which were earlier dry pressed. Structural and morphological analyses were performed on as-prepared samples. Modulus of elasticity has been found to be influenced by amount of carbon black and graphite introduced in silicon nitride matrix. New phase(s) appeared during sintering depending on carbon content.
