Summary: | Optical pumping of Nd:YAG by electrodeless are lamps is described. The lamps are annular, filled with 1-5-atm pressure of krypton and excited with 27-MHz electrical energy which is coupled to the lamp with approximately 80-percent efficiency. Optical energy is coupled from the lamp to the rod by a diffuse reflecting scheme. Overall efficiency and power output of the device are comparable to the dc-arc-lamp pumped case, while reliability and lifetime are greatly improved. The results of a successful 1000-h life test on a 25-W laser ate described. |
