CoCr-based alloys: Pt and Ta induced magnetic moments probed by X-ray magnetic circular dichroism
X‐ray magnetic circular dichroic measurements on polycrystalline CoCrPt and CoCrPtTa alloys are reported. A sizeable Pt induced magnetic moment of about 0.2μB/atom is probed in both alloys. Summary: | X‐ray magnetic circular dichroic measurements on polycrystalline CoCrPt and CoCrPtTa alloys are reported. A sizeable Pt induced magnetic moment of about 0.2μB/atom is probed in both alloys. The Pt magnetic moment is ferromagnetically coupled to the one of Co. The Ta magnetic moment is much smaller, of about only 0.03μB/atom, and it is oriented antiparallel to the Co moment. The orbital magnetic moment mL of Pt (Ta) is parallel (antiparallel) to the spin magnetic moment mS, that is both elements in these samples fulfill the third Hund's rule.
